What is a BSN?
A Citizen Service Number (BSN) is a unique number that you wille receive after being registered you in the Personal Records Database (BRP). You need it to receive a salary, open a bank account, apply for health insurance, register your child at a school or apply for government benefits for housing, healthcare or childcare.
If you're staying in the Netherlands for more than 4 months, you must register in the Personal Records Database (BRP). This rule applies to everyone. Staying 4 months or less? Check out how you can obtain a BSN as a non-resident.
Your BSN is yours for life, even if you move abroad. Keep it confidential and share it only with official organisations to protect against identity theft.
You can book a BSN registration appointment directly with your local municipality or with Leiden International Centre.
