Exhibition 'The Night' at ARS

The opening will take place on Sunday, December 7th at 5:00 PM, as it gets dark outside. Armed with a single lamp, art historian Laetitia Smit will tell a story about the night in art, particularly in Romantic and Modern art. She will shine her light on several artworks to illustrate her story. The opening is in Dutch. 

In the Saeghmolen Room, paintings, etchings, drawings, and photographs by ARS artists hang in the light. In the other room, it is dark – you can explore it with a small lamp or a blacklight. You'll see details that you might not have noticed in full light. Videos will be shown with nocturnal images of snails and moonlight in the sea. A figure rotates under blacklight lamps, and paintings glow when illuminated with blacklight.
