Are you member of a Work Council (ORs)? The you want to check out this session focused on reorganisation and dismissal. A chance to learn and network in the Leiden Bio Science Park environment.
The world of work is constantly evolving, and companies must continuously adapt to new circumstances. This may involve growth, downsizing, selling business units, mergers, acquisitions, or relocations. Sometimes, a reorganization — through restructuring or other means — is unavoidable. In these situations, Works Councils (ORs) play a crucial role and need to be well-prepared.
Key questions include:
• What should be taken into account during a reorganization?
• Is there a prescribed dismissal order in case of redundancy?
• Are severance payments mandatory?
• And is a social plan required?
During this interactive and practice-oriented session, Jaouad Seghrouchni (Senior Associate) and Thomas Catersels (Associate) — both Employment Law and Employee Participation Attorneys at De Clercq Advocaten Notariaat — will discuss the key (legal) aspects of reorganizations involving redundancies.

They will also provide practical insights and recommendations specifically for Works Councils, and share examples from their own practice — including cases that went well, and others that didn’t.
The session will be structured around a fictional reorganization case, alternating between informative presentations and interactive workshop elements such as short exercises and group discussions. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and share their own experiences throughout.
