Voting With a Smaller Ballot Paper

For the municipal elections on 18 March 2026, the Municipality of Leiden is participating in a national experiment with a new, smaller ballot paper. The ballot paper used in previous elections was very large and could be difficult to handle for both voters and polling station staff. The national government is therefore testing a redesigned format in several municipalities, including Leiden.

Written Power of Attorney

If you are unable to vote in person and cannot complete the authorization section on the back of your voting card, you can authorize someone else to vote on your behalf by requesting a written power of attorney (proxy). This is useful, for example, if you are abroad.

If you apply in time, the person you authorize will receive the proxy certificate by mail, which allows them to cast their vote for you.

You can find more information on the official website.
