Volunteering in Leiden
Have you ever thought about volunteering? Maybe you used to do some back home, and now you are not sure where you can help. After all, the language barrier can sometimes make it tricky to join volunteering work in the Netherlands. While you are working on those language skills, how can you still make a difference?
Incluzio Leiden organises every year a full month of activities for you to answer this question: the Month of the Volunteer! And this September, we are joining them to make sure the international community can learn more about the volunteering opportunities in the city.
For the Doers
Ready to get your hands dirty and help out? We are inviting our community to join one morning of gardening together!
Together with Stichting Present, we are organising groups to do volunteer gardening work on house gardens whose owners are not able to work on themselves, either for physical or mental conditions, or for the lack of a network or financial resources.
It’s a great chance to give back to the community, while also meeting new people and try out something new. And who knows, maybe you discover you love volunteering after all!

For the Undecided
If you are not yet sure what kind of volunteering work you’d be great at, we have organised together with Incluzio a workshop in English for you. Because volunteering is most enjoyable when it matches who you really are and your skills. During the interactive workshop you will explore
- Who am I? What do I find important, and what motivates me?
- What can I do? Which talents and skills do I already have?
- What do I want? What kind of volunteer work fits my wishes, interests, and available time?
This workshop is accessible, active, and above all fun. There’s plenty of room to meet people, share experiences, and have great conversations. Our goal: everyone leaves with a suitable volunteer opportunity!

For the Curious
Do you already know the volunteer role for you, but are not sure what initiatives are out there for you to join? During the volunteer market on Saturday 12 September all the volunteering organisations in Leiden will be on display.
Here you can roam around, checking out the different stalls, learning about the various organisations in the city, and talking with the volunteers themselves about their experiences.
At the market you will also find a “vacancies wall” with various available openings – will your next volunteer position be there?
