Electric Car Subsidy - New Cabinet Plan

| Carvendo | |

On april 17, 2026, the Cabinet announced a new subsidy scheme for the purchase of an electric car. With a budget of 50 million euros, the government aims to make it more attractive for people with low or middle incomes to switch to electric driving. The scheme is part of a broader support package of nearly 1 billion euros.

Anyone with a low or middle income may be eligible for the subsidy. If you earn between €12,500 and €27,533 per year, you receive a subsidy of €6,000 upon trading in your old car. If you earn between €27,534 and €35,793, you receive a maximum subsidy of €4,000. The exact conditions have yet to be determined.

At Carvendo, you will find a wide range of used electric cars eligible for this subsidy. Naturally, these come standard with a 12-months warranty, 12,000 maintenace-free kilometers, and free home delivery.

What does the electric car subsidy entail?

It is a trade-in scheme for your petrol or diesel car. These are the requirements to qualify for the subsidy.

  • You want to switch to an electric car
  • You can trade in a petrol or diesel car
  • You have a low or middle income (exact details not yet known)
  • Expected effective date: 3th or 4th quarter 2026
  • You can easily buy your car online via Carvendo

Who is the subsidy intended for?

The electric car subsidy is intended for private individuals who own a petrol or diesel car and wish to trade it in. The scheme is specifically aimed at private individuals with a low or middle income. In doing so, the government is targeting a group that has found it difficult to make the switch to electric driving until now due to the higher purchase price.

If you earn between €12,500 and €27,533 per year, you receive a subsidy of €6,000 upon trading in your old car. If you earn between €27,534 and €35,793, you receive a maximum subsidy of €4,000.

What other benefits are there for an electric car in 2026?

In addition to the new trade-in subsidy, there are more financial benefits when purchasing an electric car in 2026:

  • MRB-korting elektrische auto

Do you drive a fully electric car? Then you will receive a 30% discount on motor vehicle tax (MRB) up to and including 2028. That easily saves you hundreds of euros per year.

  • Lower business tax addition

Do you use an electric car for business purposes? In 2026, the taxable benefit is only 18%, compared to 22% for a petrol car. This means a significant tax advantage for entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals.

  • Lower fuel costs

Electric driving costs on average 3 to 4 times less per kilometer than petrol or diesel. On an annual basis, this can quickly add up to savings of thousands of euros.
