Have you always wanted to see the famous Sweat Chamber or take a peek inside the Old Observatory? This summer, you have the chance! To celebrate its 450th anniversary, Leiden University is offering exclusive tours of monumental university buildings that are usually closed to the public.
One of our students will guide you through the historic Academy Building and, on certain days, also the Old Observatory. During the tour, you’ll hear fascinating stories about the university’s rich history, student life past and present, and special places normally hidden from view.
The tours take place on weekdays from July 21 to August 8, with four time slots each day: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. On Mondays and Tuesdays, you will visit only the Academy Building (duration: approximately one hour). On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, the tour also includes the Old Observatory (duration: approximately 1.5 hours). Some of the tours are conducted in English.
Participation costs €4.50 per person, including a cup of coffee or tea afterward.
Please note: Due to stairs and narrow passages, the tours are unfortunately not suitable for people with physical disabilities. They are also not recommended for children under 10 years old.
