In *Darwin in Paradise Camp*, Wereldmuseum Leiden presents the Dutch debut of the internationally acclaimed artist Yuki Kihara. In this visually spectacular exhibition, Kihara—with humor, beauty, and critical inquiry—rewrites the Western narrative surrounding nature, gender, and identity.
From a queer and Indigenous perspective, Kihara re-examines the legacy of artists and scholars who have shaped our view of the world. Through photography, video, and installations, the exhibition invites visitors to look differently at history, the construction of imagery, and the diversity of both humanity and nature. For Yuki Kihara, the history of colonization is not a closed chapter. Its consequences remain visible—both in how we perceive other cultures and in the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Through her work, she invites visitors to recognize this legacy and to reflect upon it anew.
