Sexual Health
Regardless of your age and gender, it is important to take care of your sexual health. On this page you can find the most essential information you need to know.
The first thing to know about sexual health in the Netherlands is that your GP ("huisarts" in Dutch) should be your first point of contact, as for most other healthcare matters. If you have questions or concerns about your sexual health, your GP will be able to help you directly or refer you to the correct specialist if needed.
Some of the costs associated with sexual health will be covered by your basic health insurance. This includes GP visits, medication, treatment from specialists, most maternity care, and some cancer screenings. However, other costs such as STDs testing are not covered.Continue reading to find out more.
Contraception
Contraceptives are easily available and accessible in the Netherlands. For all methods of contraception, excluding condoms and the morning-after pill, you will need a prescription from your GP. For the birth control pill, after receiving a prescription you will be able to get refills at your local pharmacy.
