Understanding Physiotherapy in the Netherlands

If you are living in the Leiden region you can access several physical therapy treatments through the Dutch healthcare system. A doctor's referral is not necessary to access the treatments. You can cover costs by choosing a healthcare insurance plan that includes supplementary coverage for physiotherapy. Otherwise, you will need to pay directly for the treatment. To ensure that you can make a reimbursement claim through your insurance, you will still need to check with the treatment provider. The only exception as to when you may be eligible for reimbursed treatment through the basic health insurance package is if you have a chronic condition, and, in that case, you will need a referral letter from your doctor.
