BSN Registration for Employees
If someone moves to the Netherlands from abroad for four months or longer, they should register with the municipality within 5 days of arrival. This applies to both EU and non-EU citizens.
Receiving a BSN (citizen number) is an important first step for new arrivals. The number is needed to open a bank account, receive a salary and organise health insurance. We recommend booking an appointment for your employees as soon as possible after arrival.
The BSN is stored in the Personal Records Database (Basisregistratie Personen - BRP). This is a government database which contains personal data of every resident in the Netherlands. Residents are required to notify the BRP of changes of address, births, marriages, deaths and other events that may affect their legal status or the government services which they are entitled to. The BRP is maintained by the Civil Registration Office.
Book a BSN Appointment
Appointments with LIC include a 30-minute consultation with our helpdesk, a welcome bag, and the possibility to register at the employer's address.
Internationals can book the appointment themselves, or their employer can make an appointment on their behalf.
It is possible to pay with a credit card or Paypal, or companies can set up a Service Level Agreement to receive a quarterly invoice. If you are interested in this option, please contact jenny@leideninternationalcentre.nl.
