Ready for summer? Make sure to write down the Lakenfeesten in your agenda - from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25rd of June 2023.
''Lakenfeesten'' translates to ''cloth festival'', and consists of various activities and events throughout the city of Leiden. The name stems from the fact that Leiden used to be renowned for its textile industry.
On Friday 23 June, at 19:00, there will be the traditional ''Peurbakkentocht''. ''Peurbak'' is a term - barely used anymore - for a wooden box or boat the Dutch used to use to catch fish. During the water parade, there will be 50 of these floating around Leiden's canals. Additionally, from Friday onwards, there will be a fair for kids to enjoy.
On Saturday 24 June, the Dutch Dragons will organise the largest dragon boat racing event on the city's waterways: the Open Leiden Championship. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a culinary experience in Singelpark - walking from spot to spot to enjoy a new dish each time.
