The exhibition Maps: Navigate & Manipulate shows the variety and beauty of maps from around the world, and looks at how the creator chooses which version of reality we see.
When we look at maps, we should always ask ourselves: Who is mapping what and why? There is always a reason to make a card. That could be to find your way from A to B or to establish that a football field of primeval forest has been lost. People use maps to shape the world, to imagine the world, or to influence the world. With this exhibition we try to get visitors to look more critically at the maps. Are maps really that truthful or is there sometimes a different message than you initially perceive?
